Mountains and Volcanoes in South America
Mountains and volcanoes photographies, Andes mountain range, South America
I was a mountain guide for many years. Mountains have always had a great impact on me. So, photographing mountain landscapes always cause me a great excitement and emotion. I hope to transmit a little of those feeling in those images.
The Andes are the world’s longest continental mountain range on Earth. It’s a mountainous and volcanoes spine stretching for over 7,500km from north to south along the western coast of South America. The Andean cordilleras are crossing seven countries: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile and Argentina.
The great majority of the Andean peaks are volcanic. The two highest active volcanoes in the world are found here. Ojos del Salado, the highest one, 6,900m, is found along the Chilean – Argentina border. The second highest in the world and easiest to reach, is the Cotopaxi, 5897m, and is only 45km southeast of the Ecuadorian capital, Quito.
